About TRGA

The Trinity River Guides Association (TRGA) was formed in 2008 by a few local guides who were interested in protecting the river and the overall fishing experience that we all had grown to appreciate.

During the 05-07 seasons the Trinity experienced an above normal return of hatchery steelhead and Salmon. The large number of fish brought a large number of anglers, partially due to the media, such as newspapers, the internet, fishing videos, radio and T V shows exploiting the Trinity River fishing.

Trinity RiverIt became very obvious to the Trinity River guides that they needed to play a more active role in the day to day policies concerning the river. The TRGA worked with local DFG, BLM, and the USFS to bring about change in policy supporting legal- permitted guides on the Trinity. Outside of creating a greater awareness of who is who on the river, licensed- permitted guides are now required to display current permit stickers on all boats and trailers Making it easier to identify legal and non legal guiding. The TRGA is currently working with the Trinity Management Council (TMC) and Trinity River Restoration Program (TRRP) in the designation of anadromous Steelhead and salmon holding water, as well as assisting in watershed restoration and suggesting Improvements of public access points on the River. The TRGA is also actively involved with the Pacific Fisheries Management Council in determining future fishing quotas and regulations.

Trinity River SteelheadThe TRGA has approximately 50 active members, representing the recreational sport fishing guides on the 110+ river miles of the Trinity and Lower Klamath River. We collectively average approximately 5,000 client days each year. The recreational sport fishing value of the Trinity River and its anadromous fishes spans almost a 10 month season – one of the longest recreational seasons of any West Coast river systems – and contributes approximately 2 million dollars annually to the economies of Trinity, Humboldt, and Shasta Counties.
